What About the Games?
:: Emulators are great, but where do you get the games?! With the NES being so old
and classified as everything shy of antique, you can easily find classic Nintendo games on-line available for
download, heck, just
Google it. But now the games come as ROM files that have a
.nes extension.
These ROMs play on emulators
and provide for a near-perfect game experience. These are not remakes, ROMs are
the original games ripped from the cartrdiges (kind of like ripping MP3s from a CD).
Tales from Counselor's Corner
:: Remember Counselor's Corner in the old Nintendo Power magazine? We've managed to hook up
with a couple ex-Game Play Counselor's and asked them about their time working at Nintendo during the glory days. Both of these
guys wrote me back when I had NES questions when I was a kid...maybe they wrote you back too!
Music to Your Ears
:: I know you can whistle the Super Maro Bros. theme song, don't act like you
can't. It's easy to make good music when you have unlimited technology, but when you only had 8-bits to play
with you had to get creative. The 8-bit music, or chiptunes, are more popular now than even then...and it
sounds great.
Repair and Replay
:: If you're lucky enough to have kept your original NES deck, there's
a good chance it might need some good ol TLC. Is your deck plagued with the light flickr, blocky
graphics, or just doesn't play like it used to? A simple $10 part and a screw driver are all you
need to (probably) make it play like new.
The Gaming Extras
:: Remember all the maps, guide books, and cheat codes
you had for your games? You don't need them much anymore, but back then it was
life or death if you didn't have the right gear.
The NES Legacy
:: Even we remember the NES when it was hot and new, the "retro" gaming
thing is a hot thing these days and we're all for showing off our past glory. Now we can get
all the stuff we didn't have back then.
